During an interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox News, Thomas Homan, the Immigration, and Customs Enforcement leader berated politicians of sanctuary cities, “We gotta take [sanctuary cities] to court and we gotta start charging some of these politicians with crimes,” he claimed.
Sanctuary cities have recently become more widespread in the United States and Canada. Within them, local or state governments ignore federal immigration law in order to harbor or shelter illegal immigrants. Proponents of sanctuary cities argue that it makes them safer, due to the fact that illegal immigrants, (or undocumented people, as leftists refer to them as), will be more likely to come forward to the police. Opponents counter that point, referring to the crime data that exists regarding noncitizens in the United States such as the information referenced here.
Homan encouraged the US Department of Justice to regard the aforementioned politicians “personally accountable” due to the fact that “more citizens are going to die because of these policies.”
In a bold statement, Homan offered an ultimatum to sanctuary cities nationwide; if the state would not enforce federal immigration laws to, “protect its citizens”, then federal agents would be sent in to do so.
